UF Research Computing is enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) for SSH (SFTP, RSYNC, and SCP) on HiPerGator and all ancillary services. The maintenance is expected to be completed by Monday, October 18th at 5:00 PM.

The vendor that supports myIT and myRequest will perform maintenance beginning on Friday, October 15th at 10:00 PM. myIT is used by UFIT to record and track service requests and incidents. myRequest is used by Shared Services for service requests. While outages are possible throughout the maintenance window, the vendor that supports myIT / myRequest does not expect the service to be interrupted for the entire maintenance window. The maintenance is expected to be completed by Saturday, October 16th at 8:00 AM.

University community members accessing MyInvestiGator may experience an issue involving the Award ID and Agency Reference ID not being shown correctly in the project summary. This issue affects most, if not all, MyIG projects.

myinvestiGator is used as a online decision-making support tool for sponsored projects.

UFIT staff members are aware of this issue and they are actively working to resolve the issue.

VM Hosting : Service Information - potentially service impacting if unaddressed (Expired 10/15/2021 4:56pm)

In the 10/12/2021 patch Tuesday releases, Microsoft released an update for VMware disk drivers that introduced a bug causing some VMs to require to be restored from a backup.

It will show up in Windows Updates as a critical update called “VMWare Inc – SCSIAdapter – 1.3.18.0”.

We recommend either blocking this update until further notice, or take a brief snapshot before applying patches so you can roll it back afterwards in case of problems.

Enterprise Analytics will be unavailable during the maintenance window and users who are login will be logged off.

The maintenance window is expected to be completed by 6:00 p.m.

UFNet Environments : Service Outage (Expired 9/21/2021 3:30pm)

The problem with UFNet Environments has been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.


UFIT is implementing a resolution for the Service Issue/Outage regarding UFNet Environments and expects service restoration to be fully restored by Noon. Services are currently being restored and Core Network engineers are in the process of checking.


UFNet Environments is currently unavailable. Due to a hardware failure the UF Network Environments that services UFguest wireless, ISN, PCI, External and Science DMZ networks are impacted. Core Network Engineers are working to restore service as soon as possible. UFIT will fully investigate the issues that caused it after the service is restored.

UFIT understands that this outage is disrupting academic and administrative processes and appreciates the impact it is having on the university community. Our staff are working as quickly as possible to restore services.

Security Alert: WordPress Releases Security Update (Expired 9/17/2021 11:13am)

Wordpress has recently released version 5.8.1 to address multiple security vulnerabilities affecting versions of Wordpress between 5.4 and 5.8.

Wordpress administrators are encouraged to upgrade to the latest version in order to mitigate the identified security vulnerabilities.

Security Alert: Microsoft Office 0-Day Vulnerability (Expired 9/16/2021 4:34pm)

9/9/2021 4:42pm Problem

Microsoft recently published a security advisory regarding an unpatched vulnerability in Microsoft Office. This remote code execution vulnerability, identified as CVE-2021-40444, is currently being used in targeted attacks.

The exploit would most likely show up as an Office document attachment in a phishing email or download link from a web site. Users are asked to take extra precautions when opening Office documents from untrusted sources.

Until a patch is made available, Microsoft has published a workaround which involves disabling ActiveX in Internet Explorer.

Network Storage and Archive Management (NSAM)

UFIT staff will perform maintenance for Network Storage and Archive Management (NSAM) beginning on Tuesday, September 7th at 10:00 AM. Network Storage and Archive Management (NSAM) is used to safeguard the University's critical data. UFIT will be we implementing additional changes to the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Tape Archive platform. The maintenance activity involves applying new network ACLs to restrict TSM admin access to ICT secure networks and VPNs. This will not impact regular node backup operations. The maintenance is expected to be completed by Tuesday, September 7th at 12:00 PM.
